Matthew Rogerson happily passes his time at the Fort Elbow campus of the University of Ohio with thoughts of retirement. His pleasant dreams are interrupted when he finds himself involved in an academic crisis. The school chancellor, arrested for drunk driving on his way home from a massage parlor, has resigned, and a search committee has been set up to find a replacement. With two young, ambitious administrators vying for succession, hidden agendas lead to political infighting and, then, murder. But who is the murderer, and who will succeed the disgraced chancellor?
