A young historian travels to Marseille on a fellowship to research the late renowned war photographer and French resistant Pierre Durapau and interview his widow Edna Kartopoulas. Instead, he finds his professional and personal world crumble around him after he is the sole witness to a tragic accident in Patrick Ryan's debut novel.

Patrick Ryan was born and raised in New Orleans. He was founder and editor-in-chief of Lodestar Quarterly, editor-in-chief of Fourteen Hills, and assistant editor of Harrington Gay Men's Fiction Quarterly. His fiction has appeared in The Ontario Review, Best New American Voices 2001, Men on Men 2000: Best Gay Fiction for the New Millennium, Cairn, Velvet Mafia, The James White Review, Pleiades, Hanging Loose, and Rainbow Curve, among others.
