“Funny how when a confirmed bachelor finally decides to get married, he can't wait to find a minister?” Navy nurse Jo Neillor had to agree with her friend Pixie, but what was even funnier was Jo's own reaction. She was in love with Lt. Jack Hurley wasn't she? She wanted to marry the flyer, didn't she? Then why couldn't she set the date? A PROPOSAL…

Unexpectedly, Jack pulled her into his arms. For a moment Jo, resisted, embarrassed because Dr. Taylor, coming down the dispensary steps after her, would surely see them. Then she surrendered.

“I don't want to leave you,” Jack whispered against her hair. “I wish we were married.”
“Would it be easier to leave me if we were married?” Jo teased.
He held her tighter. “Don't be so logical. This isn't a debate you know.”
“Then what is it?”
“It's a proposal -- I think. “I've never proposed to a girl before.”
Happiness bubbled up in her. “Oh, Jack!”
Through the tumultuous pounding of her heart, through her breathless, excited laughter, she heard the soft fall of Hank Taylor's footsteps going away from them…
