Megan Amery couldn't refuse a request to accompany her actress sister's small son, Stephan, to Vienna to join his father, an ex-patriot Hungarian. On arrival, Megan was horrified to discover the house occupied only by a housekeeper and Stephan's uncle, Gregor, an orchestra conductor. Forced to stay in Vienna with the child, Megan soon finds herself in constant contact with the enigmatic maestro. But Gregor is haunted by his tragic past, into which Megan is gradually drawn.
