In Lieu of Flowers, loosely inspired by James Joyce's Dubliners, is a collection of short stories which illustrate the key existential problems faced by modern archetypes amid a changing American landscape. Through the various minutia and tedium of everyday life, the collection strives for the deeper and directional importance concealed behind seemingly inconsequential experiences and interactions. A documentation of the mundane, yet an indictment of that very label itself, In Lieu of Flowers employs humor, satire, romanticism, and drama in pursuit of its succinct, pro-realistic metaphors. Colin and Matt McDonough reside in Hamden, Connecticut. They attended UConn with co-author Dan Kagan and graduated in 2012. The McDonough's are freelance sportswriters and are fans of the New England Patriots and Boston Celtics. They enjoy traveling the country to different baseball stadiums each summer with their family.
