Diana and her gifted physicist husband Stuart had led an affluent life in Edinburgh. Stuart had now left Diana due to her embarrassing and excessively flirtatious behaviour but more importantly her drinking. They had a son Donald, studying law at the University of Edinburgh. When Stuart left, Diana really wasn't too sure if she felt liberated or scared. She was very attractive, in her mid-forties, with a master's degree and enough savings to weather the storm before going back into the job market. Realising that her new liberated state afforded her some opportunities, Diana began to extend her flirtatious behaviour into something more adventurous. More dangerous in fact. She was inclined to look for men, and preferably more than one at the same time. Diana had a close and loyal friend Angela, in her early fifties, who herself was divorced. Diana confided in Angela the extent of her new sexual encounters with groups of men, but Angela could not fully understand. It was too dangerous. Eventually, Diana has more encounters with groups of men and even develops a huge crush on a younger woman Mandy who in fact turns out to be a pimp and lures Diana into a dangerous game of bondage and spiked drinks. Diana becomes unconscious during one of the erotic sessions and is taken to hospital. When Diana is in hospital, she is given some very bad news. Stuart tries to effect a reconciliation and Diana agrees but cannot get Mandy out of her head. Stuart and Diana go down to St Tropez for a short break and Diana is raped by three young Spanish men wielding a machete and knives while Stuart is tied to a chair and blindfolded. She is forced by circumstances to reveal herself to Stuart. She tells Stuart about her affair with Mandy hoping that he will tolerate it for Donald's sake. Stuart agrees that Diana invite Mandy to the house when Donald is away. Diana ponders the future and is unsure of what to do.
