When ten-year-old Annie, her twin brother and four other kids run away from St. Theresa's, a home for orphans, they vow to stick together no matter what. And at first, things couldn't be better. Led by eighteen-year-old "Lola" -- nicknamed for the advice column he writes to make the money that supports the "family" -- they find a house in the small town of Sweet River and make it their home.

But some of their new neighbors notice that there are no grownups in this "family." And the strange cartons that are always arriving for them at the Post Office look very suspicious.

It looks like the kids are going to have to do some pretty fast talking to stay in the clear. But can they cover their tracks without uncovering the truth?
