Lesley Farlan was intrigued by her wealthy new employers, Curt and Cleo VanCampen. She was to accompany them and some friends and a young, handsome fellow employee, Ron Calvert, to the Cornish coast of England and act as nurse-companion to Cleo, a semi-invalid.

What she had not been told was the purpose of the trip--they were going to look for a treasure supposedly buried during World War II by the Nazis. It was rumored to be within the confines of a lighthouse on the coast. At first the idea of such a treasure hunt had excited Lesley. Moreover, she would share in whatever was found!

Her first premonition of danger came when she spied the craggy, desolate coast. The wind-swept isolation reminded her of a recurring nightmare she had had from childhood. And almost immediately fantasy invaded reality when the body of a man was discovered awash in the sea. At the grisly sight Lesley's mounting hysteria was calmed only by the steadying arm of Ron Calvert.

The ensuing treasure hunt was carried out against a background of murder, suspicion, greed, and a ravaging gale that relentlessly tormented the coast. The treasure hunters were the hunted prey of a mad, unknown assailant, and Lesley was plagued by the memory of her nightmare, the end of which she could not remember.

As they neared the treasure passions and eccentricities increased with the fury of the storm. And Lesley found herself trapped in a situation that seemed to have no end.
