Tom Clancy

Tom Clancy was born on April 12th 1947. He is an American author, best known for his technically detailed espionage, military science and techno thriller story lines set during and in the aftermath of the cold war. Before becoming a writer he was an insurance broker with a love of military history. In 1984 his first novel ‘The Hunt For Red October’ was published and he was catapulted onto the best-seller list. It was later famously made into a film staring Sean Connery. The success of Clancy’s books has resulted in his ‘adoption’ by the military. He is regularly welcomed aboard jets, submarines, and destroyers. Admirals and generals give him access, Pentagon officials debrief him, and many of his books are required reading at military colleges. As well as his novels he is the author of the non-fiction books, ‘Submarine’, ‘Armoured Warfare’, ‘Fighter Wing’ and ‘Marine. He is married to his second wife and lives in Maryland USA.
