Rick Riordan

     
Rick Riordan grew up in Texas reading Tolkien and Greek and Norse mythology. He began writing when he was in middle school. He submitted his first story for publication when he was 13, but it wasn't published. He attended University of Texas, Austin where he majored in English and History. After graduating from college, he taught for fifteen years and always taught mythology in his classes.

He wrote his first series, Tres Navarre, while still teaching full-time. It was released to great critical acclaim including winning the top three national awards for mystery novels. His Percy Jackson novels started out as a bedtime story for his son. His Percy Jackson, Kane Chronicles and Heroes of Olympus series have over 30 million copies in print. He received the 2011 Children's Choice Book Award for Author of the year. He lives in San Antonio with his wife and sons.
