Georgette Heyer is widely renowned as the creator of the Regency romance genre. Born in 1902, she wrote her first book, “The Black Moth” at the age of nineteen. It was an instant success. She was intensely private and not much is known about her private life. In 1925, she married Ronald Rougier and the couple spent several years in Tanganyika and Macedonia where her husband worked as a mining engineer. They returned to England in 1929. As a writer, she was a meticulous researcher which was evident in the rich details she used to describe the Regency period. Her main influence was Jane Austen and Heyer took great care to recreate Austen’s time period for her readers. Heyer also wrote historical novels and detective fiction. She continued writing until her death in 1974.
