New Jersey born television reporter Cassie O'Connor is ambitious. Her most recent assignment—covering the fatal shooting of a highway patrol trooper—appears promising at first. When she arrives on the scene, however, she finds that the killer has already been caught, and the outcome of the trial is a foregone conclusion—until the killer escapes on the very day his trial is to begin. Soon she is drawn into a world of clandestine meetings and informants and a tightly woven plot of deceit that hides a shocking truth about the escape.
