It began in a rush of romance and excitement for Betty, a beautiful young librarian. She met and married handsome Tommy Brynmaster, the wealthy owner of Brynmaster Oaks, and they came to the old family mansion to live.
But suddenly her rosy glow of romance was shattered, as she learned of Tommy's first wife, and her untimely and suspicious death. Her unease deepened as she met Aunt Greta - a stern and disapproving old woman with whom she and Tommy must live for "a year and a day" if the mansion was to be theirs. Then came a night of terror - a dying woman's scream, a bloodcurdling vision of indescribable horror - and a series of life-threatening occurrences that plunged Betty into a strange web of suffocating evil!
