How does the free 3-day trial subscription work?
By registering in our system, you will automatically be given an active account for the period of 3 days.  During that time, if you would like to continue your subscription, you can make payment from your My Account page.  If you choose not to continue your subscription, your account will automatically expire at the end of the trial.

How much does it cost?

What methods of payment do you accept?
We accept VISA, MasterCard, Discover and Paypal directly from our site at your My Account page. We also accept checks and money orders in U.S. dollars at:

Login and Registration

What if I forget my password?
On the login page, if you check the box marked "Send My Password", an email containing your password will be sent to your last registered email address.  You only need to fill in your normal login name, check the box and press "Login"

I've registered, but I still can't log in.  What's wrong?
Have you activated your account?
You should have received an e-mail from us when you registered. This e-mail includes an activation link.  You must activate your account using this link. If you have not received an e-mail, you probably mistyped your e-mail address.  Please e-mail us at Support@FictionDB.com and we will assist you in activating your account.

I've logged in successfully, but I keep getting the Login screen.  What's wrong?
Are you using the back button to go back to where you started? Using the back button to go back to a page you previously viewed prior to your login will invalidate your login.  Once you've logged in, use the navigation bar on the top of the screen to move forward in the site.

Another common problem is your internet security settings. FictionDB makes extensive use of cookies and if your security system does not allow this, you will be unable to login.

We also recommend clicking the Logout button, closing your browser and logging in again. Sometimes clearing the existing settings is all you need to get going again.

The best way to ensure that this doesn't become a problem is to store your login details.  Check the "Keep Login Details" on the login screen (see graphic below). This will allow you access to the site without having to login each time you visit.

Your My Account page has a link to update all of your account information.

And that's just the start!

What is My Bookshelf?
Think of My Bookshelf as your TBR (To Be Read) stack in the popular internet vernacular. You can add books to the shelf from a variety of places throughout the site.  Add an author's entire work from the Authors page or add individual books from the Book Detail page. You can then give them ratings, dates and notes that are yours alone.

What is My Wishlist?
Think of My Wishlist as your TBP (To Be Purchased) list in the popular internet vernacular. You can add books to the list from a variety of places throughout the site.  Add an author's entire work from the Authors page or add individual books from the Book Detail page or the New Releases page. You can then print the list out and take it with you.  When you've acquired the book, just click on the bookshelf icon and the book will automatically be moved onto your bookshelf.

What is My Archive?
You can use My Archive in any way you choose.  It looks and feels just like My Bookshelf.  Many people store information on books they no longer have on their bookshelf.  You might want to peruse the books you read last year, but you'd prefer they weren't cluttering up your bookshelf.

What do all the little icons mean?
We make extensive use of hover text, so take a minute to let your mouse float over the icons that you see on any page.

Selling Books using My Bookstore

How do I start selling books on FictionDB?
Just click on the dollar sign on any of the Book Detail screens or in My Bookshelf or My Archive.  The site will walk you through listing your book.  You will be contacted directly by the buyer for a sale.  The rest of the transaction is up to you at that point.

Can you explain the different conditions of books sold?
These condition assessments should be used as a guide when determining where the condition of a book falls.

LIKE NEW -- Never been read or looks like it has never been read

VERY GOOD -- Slightly creased spine, might have store stamps, fresh looking cover.

GOOD -- Definite creases in spine or cover, store stamps, writing. All pages are intact.

FAIR -- Heavy creasing or slanted spine, but no serious damage.

POOR -- Might have loose pages, water damage or heavy stains. Reading Copy Only.

Buying books on FictionDB

How do I buy a book that I see on your site?
Just click on the Buy link whenever you see one.  If a member of FictionDB has a copy for sale, you will see those books listed first.  At the bottom of the page, you will also see links to some of the more popular online sites for books.  If you decide to purchase a book from one of FictionDB's members, the site will pop up an e-mail window for you.  Take that opportunity to communicate with the seller about your interest in the book.

Site Maintenance

How often is the site updated?
The book detail on the site is usually updated once a month.  This process takes anywhere from 1 to 3 hours. Visit our blog to hear about upcoming site outages.  However, we reserve the right to make changes at any time that could result in the temporary downtime of the site.

Will I have access to my information during site maintenance?
Yes.
